Why a Colorbond® patio holds up

Colorbond steel resists corrosion, fire and termites and is built to handle Australian weather, which is why it is the volume choice for outdoor structures here. The steel carries Thermatech solar-reflectance technology that reflects more heat to help keep the space cooler underneath. On the Gold Coast that matters for the summer sun and salt air; in Melbourne it handles the temperature swings and wind.

Flat, gable or designer

A flat (skillion) roof gives clean modern lines and is the most cost-effective. A gable roof suits pitched-roof homes and lets heat rise away from the living space. Designer options combine profiles for larger or split spaces. If you want a softer, more traditional look, a timber pergola or verandah may suit better, and we build those too.

Two warranties, kept separate

There are two warranties worth understanding. BlueScope provides its own product warranty on the genuine Colorbond steel. On top of that, we provide a 10-year structural warranty on the workmanship of the build. The first covers the material; the second covers how we put it together.

Make the space usable year-round

If you want to use the patio through summer heat and winter cold, ask about insulated roof panels. We run every build on one clear six-step process, from the free on-site measure to handover. Book a measure and we will put a fixed price in front of you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Colorbond® patio?

A patio with a roof made from genuine BlueScope Colorbond® steel, supported on a steel or timber frame. It is the most popular outdoor structure in Australia because the steel is durable, low-maintenance and resists corrosion, fire and termites.

How long does a Colorbond® patio last?

Decades, when it is built and flashed correctly. The Colorbond® steel carries BlueScope's product warranty, and we back the build with a 10-year structural warranty on top. Longevity comes down to the quality of the install as much as the material.

Is Colorbond® good for the Gold Coast climate?

Yes. It handles UV, heat and storms well, and Thermatech helps keep the space cooler. Near the water we specify appropriately for salt air, which affects how long any steel lasts, so the detailing matters.

Flat or gable roof for a patio?

A flat (skillion) roof is the most cost-effective and gives clean modern lines. A gable suits pitched-roof homes and helps heat rise away from the living area. We show you both against your home before you choose.

Do I need approval for a patio?

On the Gold Coast, generally yes for any size. In Victoria it depends on the size, the structure and any overlay. Either way we confirm what your job needs and handle the building approval.

What is the difference between a patio and a pergola?

Largely the region and the roof. On the Gold Coast a roofed outdoor structure is usually called a patio. In Melbourne the same thing is often called a pergola. A patio is typically fully roofed; a pergola may be open or have a permeable roof.
